Innkeepers Jean and George Becker
make no secret of their love for bikes of all kinds.
Their Jackson House Bed and Breakfast is the only B and
B located right on the bicycle-friendly Heritage Rail
Trail. And their dog is named Harley.
But their love for people is even
greater. The Beckers’ warm hospitality and beautiful
1859 inn in Railroad, PA, have won them a coveted 3rd
Best Overall award from BedandBreakfast.com.
That’s an amazing honor considering
the Beckers have been innkeepers for just one year. Rave
reviews indicate some of the reasons for their success.
Visitors to the Southern York County inn compare
George’s skills in the kitchen to famed chef Emeril (see
recipes). And, while we haven’t heard stories about
Emeril fixing bicycle tires or warming towels for winter
dips in the hot tub, George has been lauded for both.
Guests also rave about relaxing in
the garden by the waterfall, strolling through the
beautiful terraced gardens and rocking on the front
porch as others bike and jog past. A visit to the
Jackson House Bed and Breakfast’s excellent website
reveals both the beauty and the fun available to those
staying there.
It’s a great place to meet new
friends or spend a time away with old ones. Those who
enjoy biking and hiking especially look forward to
soaking their aching muscles in the inn’s hot tub. And,
with a minimum of four requests, a massage therapist
from Serenity Station will make a house – or should we
say B and B -- call.

When Steve and Barbara Smeltzer say,
“We are looking forward to making your day enjoyable in
spirit, soul and body,” they aren’t exaggerating. The
Smeltzers have transformed an 1838 railroad station
house and former post office/general store into a
multi-purpose oasis they call Serenity Station.
Located along a scenic stretch of the
Heritage Rail Trail, Serenity Station offers visitors
sweet treats ranging from ice cream cones and power
drinks to therapeutic massages.
If you have weary muscles from
bicycling on the Rail Trail, you can rest them in
Serenity Station’s hot tub. And if you don’t have a
bike, they’ll rent you one. And a helmet, too, if you’d
like.
Located in Seven Valleys in Southern
York County, Serenity Station, is a spa and wellness
center, a deli, a casual gourmet restaurant, a caterer,
a gift shop, a bike shop... and more.
Or, in the words of Seinfeld
character Frank Costanza, it offers serenity now!
